Job Posting – Equipment Operator

A vacancy exists for an individual to fulfill the position of a seasonal equipment operator for the Rural Municipality of Lomond No. 37. This position is responsible for accepting work orders from the municipal foreman, general maintenance of roadways, shoulders, bridges, culverts, ditches, and signs to ensure public safety.

The R.M. of Lomond No. 37 is located south of Weyburn, SK with the shop located in Goodwater, SK. The municipality has a population of 275 residents and includes a wide range of agricultural, residential, commercial, and oil & gas developments. We offer competitive wages, and a comprehensive benefit package and pension plan effective after 90 days.

General duties & responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Operate a motor grader to complete road maintenance, grading, gravel reclamation, some road construction, and snow removal.
  • Ensure roads are maintained and repaired on a priority basis.
  • Operate a tractor and mower to mow ditches.
  • Experience with CAT grader and other heavy equipment experience is an asset.
  • Report to the municipal Foreman.
  • Log work completed, log and report inspections, and ensure safety procedures are followed and fully maintained daily.

Expected working hours:

  • March & November – 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, weather and work demand permitting.
  • April to October – 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, weather and work demand permitting (includes overtime).
  • Estimation of 2,000 hours per year. This working schedule may be subject to change.
  • Wage is dependent on experience.

The successful candidate must possess:

  • A valid class 5 driver’s license, however, a Class 1A would be an asset.
  • Road-building knowledge and experience is an asset.
  • Road maintenance knowledge and experience in road construction, crack sealing, mowing ditches, rock picking, and culvert installation is an asset.
  • Ability to service and maintain equipment.
  • Good time management skills and the ability to work unsupervised as well as with a team.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to push, pull, lift, sit, stand, walk, and crouch for extended periods.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug testing (due to this being a safety-sensitive position).
