Training Available for Strychnine Stewardship Program

Training is now available for producers in the R.M. of Lomond No. 37 through the Strychnine Stewardship Program. This training is required to access strychnine for responsible RGS control.

Mandatory strychnine training for distributors and users is now available. Under the approved Emergency Use Registration (EUR), all RMs distributing strychnine and all users of strychnine are required to complete the mandatory training program.

The 90-minute online training course is available through SARM. The training provides an overview of responsible strychnine use, environmental protection, integrated pest management, and pesticide safety. It also covers strychnine user’s responsibilities as per the EUR, which includes an assessment of treatment areas for the presence of species at risk, as well as monitoring and documentation for all sites where strychnine is applied.

The R.M. of Lomond No. 37 is hiring!

A vacancy exists for an individual to fulfill the seasonal full-time position of maintenance & equipment operator for the Rural Municipality of Lomond No. 37. The role includes working with a maintenance workforce consisting of four other employees, including the municipal Foreman. The potential for permanent full-time may become available.

The R.M. of Lomond No. 37 is located south of Weyburn, SK with the shop located in Goodwater, SK. The municipality has a population of 275 residents and includes a wide range of agricultural, residential, commercial, and oil & gas developments.

The position will commence on June 1st, 2026 and continue to December 31st, 2026. Work schedule is 50 hours per week with overtime required. General duties & responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Construction and manual labour with some machinery work.
  • Crack sealing, mowing ditches, rock picking, culvert installation, road sign installation, snow removal, fence removal and replacement, grass seeding, and general yard and equipment maintenance.
  • Promote and maintain workplace safety practices at all times.
  • Willing to work in a team environment.

The successful candidate must possess:

  • A valid class 5 driver’s license; however, Class 1A would be an asset.
  • Road-building knowledge and experience.
  • Road maintenance knowledge and experience in road construction.
  • Ability to service and maintain equipment.
  • Experience with heavy equipment.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug testing.

Tax Payments & Canada Post Strike

Due to the disruption of mail delivery services by Canada Post, the municipality is asking ratepayers to submit their 2025 tax payments via e-transfer to rm37@sasktel.net, or through their financial institution’s online banking (limited availability dependent on institution).

Please contact the municipal office if you have mailed your tax payment and have not received a tax receipt yet. We can make accommodations to return your mailed tax payment if you choose to send an online payment or e-transfer to take advantage of the September discount.

Payments can also be submitted to the municipal office located at 327 Railway Avenue in Goodwater, SK. Regular office hours are 9 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday. Please call ahead to ensure the office is open. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Administrator at 306-456-2566 rm37@sasktel.net.

Road Construction – 705 Primary Grid to Colgate

Please be advised that the asphalt overlay construction of the 705 Primary Grid will be beginning on August 27th and run until September 11th, 2025. During this time, there will be flag personnel on site, and traffic restrictions may be in place between highway 35 and RGE RD 2152.

The construction of the highway 35 turning lane onto the 705 primary grid will also be started on August 27th and will run concurrently with the paving of the 705.

Designated Area for PDAP Spring Storm

The R.M. of Lomond No. 37 request for designation as an eligible assistance area under the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP) has been approved, for the Heavy Snow on April 13-15, 2022. 

Ratepayers must complete the PDAP Private Property Application Form (available for download below) and forward it to pdapdocs@gov.sk.ca. Claims must be submitted by October 15, 2022.

Invitation to Tender – Gravel Loading, Hauling & Stockpiling

The Rural Municipality of Lomond No. 37, located in Southeast Saskatchewan, is accepting tenders to spread approximately 26,900 cubic yards of gravel for the 2024 municipal road maintenance program. The gravel is stockpiled at a site in the NW. ¼ 8-4-15-W2M. The work is to be completed between May and September (inclusive), subject to weather or other extenuating circumstances. HELP Shelterbelt Tree Program

This is an important notice regarding the HELP Shelterbelt Program proposed free tree, free mulch and free drip irrigation supply program under the federal government’s 2 Billion Tree Initiative.

Job Posting – Equipment Operator

A vacancy exists for an individual to fulfill the position of a seasonal equipment operator for the Rural Municipality of Lomond No. 37. This position is responsible for accepting work orders from the municipal foreman, general maintenance of roadways, shoulders, bridges, culverts, ditches, and signs to ensure public safety.

The R.M. of Lomond No. 37 is located south of Weyburn, SK with the shop located in Goodwater, SK. The municipality has a population of 275 residents and includes a wide range of agricultural, residential, commercial, and oil & gas developments. We offer competitive wages, and a comprehensive benefit package and pension plan effective after 90 days.

General duties & responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Operate a motor grader to complete road maintenance, grading, gravel reclamation, some road construction, and snow removal.
  • Ensure roads are maintained and repaired on a priority basis.
  • Operate a tractor and mower to mow ditches.
  • Experience with CAT grader and other heavy equipment experience is an asset.
  • Report to the municipal Foreman.
  • Log work completed, log and report inspections, and ensure safety procedures are followed and fully maintained daily.

Expected working hours:

  • March & November – 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, weather and work demand permitting.
  • April to October – 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, weather and work demand permitting (includes overtime).
  • Estimation of 2,000 hours per year. This working schedule may be subject to change.
  • Wage is dependent on experience.

The successful candidate must possess:

  • A valid class 5 driver’s license, however, a Class 1A would be an asset.
  • Road-building knowledge and experience is an asset.
  • Road maintenance knowledge and experience in road construction, crack sealing, mowing ditches, rock picking, and culvert installation is an asset.
  • Ability to service and maintain equipment.
  • Good time management skills and the ability to work unsupervised as well as with a team.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to push, pull, lift, sit, stand, walk, and crouch for extended periods.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug testing (due to this being a safety-sensitive position).

The Rural Municipality of Lomond No. 37 may impose a weight restriction (Ban) on any municipal road, at any time, to maintain the integrity of a road pursuant to Bylaw No. 5/92 and Bylaw No. 3-2012. The municipality shall impose the following Weight Restrictions.

That Pursuant to Bylaw 3-2012 that the following weight restrictions be imposed within the R.M. of Lomond No. 37 at 12:01 am on March 15th, 2023:

  • Gravel & Oil Surfaced Roads –
    • Secondary Weight Restrictions will be imposed on ALL roads from March 15th, 2023 to June 15th, 2023 (runs concurrently with Sask. Highways 9 Month Secondary Weight Season on Highway 35).
  • During Spring Restrictions, overweight permits may be issued for non-divisible loads only and will be available for gravel roads only. Contact this office for permit approval. Secondary Weights will continue on Oil Surfaced Roads during Sask. Highways Spring Road Bans;

2022 Ag. Land Reinspection by SAMA

The Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency (SAMA) continues to work hard to help local governments maintain a stabilized assessment base.

The Council of the R.M. of Lomond No. 37 and SAMA have agreed to a reinspection program to be carried out in the R.M. of Lomond #37 this year.  Reinspection is an ongoing program by SAMA to ensure information about the physical characteristics of all properties are up to date.  To ensure that your property is assessed correctly we encourage you to provide SAMA with the information needed to complete an accurate assessment. 

As the landowner, you are the expert when it comes to the productivity of your land. We have enclosed a Farmland Information Sheet with this letter so you can assist SAMA appraisers by identifying your cultivated acreages and areas on your individual quarters that are less or non-productive due to salinity or flooding.  If you have no issues, please fill in your name and check the box at the top of the form.

Review of properties in your municipality should begin 2 weeks after receipt of this letter and completed somewhere between May and September.

Fire Ban Update

May 11th, 2021


The R.M. of Souris Valley No. 7 and the R.M. of Lomond No. 37 have been in the HIGH fire risk from the Saskatchewan Spatial Fire Management System for the past several weeks. In addition, the RM of Souris Valley No. 7 and the RM of Lomond No. 37 have issued a Fire Ban for both RM’s. This has made it difficult for farmers to burn off fields prior to seeding.


The R.M. of Souris Valley No. 7, the R.M. of Lomond No. 37 and the 737 Volunteer Fire Department support an agriculture exception to the current burn ban. The exception would only be for a controlled burn of crop residue to plant the 2021 crop. No other burning, such as brush piles, old buildings, sloughs, or non-crop related fires shall be exempted, any person who violates this exemption, and a firefighting response is required, the fire-fighting fees will be doubled.


The exception would be at the discretion of the 737 Fire Chief, as well as the 2 Deputy Fire Chiefs, who must notify the RM offices and the Fire Department that they have approved a controlled burn. Prior to approving the burn, the individual will need to ensure that they have an adequate firebreak around the burn site. The individual planning to burn must also have either a tractor with tillage implement, or a vehicle with a water tank and pump capable of extinguishing any fire that starts outside the fire break as well as the necessary manpower.
